Spring Yard Waste Season is Here

April is here which means it is yard waste season!  As you begin your spring yard clean up here is what you need to know about disposing of your yard waste:

  • Yard waste can be mixed with landfill trash and placed in your blue cart.
  • Unless you are a resident of City of Ralston or City of Bellevue, between April 1 and November 30 we will collect up to five brown yard waste bio bags placed outside of your cart. You must use brown paper bio bags for yard waste that does not fit in the cart.  We will not pick up yard waste left in plastic bags.
  • Sticks that will not fit in the cart should be cut to a length no longer than four feet and bundled together near the cart.

Special rules apply to residents of the City of Bellevue and the City of Ralston.

City of Ralston

Residents of the City of Ralston should place all yard waste in the blue cart with regular trash.  All trash and yard waste must fit inside the cart EXCEPT during the last two weeks of May and for the entire month of November.

During these two time periods residents may place additional yard waste bags beside the trash cart.  Any yard waste in bags must be in brown bio bags and there is no limit on how many bags we will pick up during these two time periods.  Please note that you must use paper bags; we are unable to pick up yard waste in plastic bags.

City of Bellevue

During yard waste season, your brown cart may only be used for yard waste.  Contents of the brown cart are composted, so we are unable to empty brown carts if they contain landfill trash.

  • Yard waste includes leaves, lawn clippings, prunings, weeds, and dead plant material.
  • Yard waste that does not fit in the cart may be placed in brown bio bags and placed alongside the brown cart. There is no limit to how many bio bags we will pick up during yard waste season.  If using bio bags, your brown cart must also be at the curb, and the bags should not weigh more than 40 pounds. Please do NOT put your yard waste in plastic bags.
  • Branches over one inch in diameter cannot be composted. They must be cut to a size that will fit in your blue cart with the lid closed.  BETTER OPTION: take them to the City’s free tree dump located at 8902 Cedar Island Road on the last Saturday of the month from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
